The New York Jets had a trio of uniform number changes, with all three players switching to single-digits.
Defensive lineman Will McDonald IV changes from his No. 99 to No. 9, which was vacated by the team releasing veteran kicker Greg Zuerlein.
McDonald is coming off a breakout second season with the Jets, earning full starter snaps and translating them into 10.5 sacks.
McDonald also tallied 28 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 24 quarterback hits, three pass deflections and two forced fumbles.
Special teams darling Xavier Gipson goes from No. 82 to No. 3.
Gipson primarily serves as the return man for the Jets, but occasionally makes appearances in the receiving game. In his two seasons with the Jets, he's hauled in 27 receptions for 268 yards and a touchdown. He's also taken a handful of rushes, earning 73 yards on the ground on nine carries, including a touchdown.
Rising sophomore receiver Malachi Corley is swapping out his No. 14 jersey for No. 6.
Corley played in nine games, starting one in his rookie campaign. He had three receptions for 16 yards, but most famously dropped what would have been his first career touchdown just inches shy of the end zone.
The jersey number changes won't make or break the Jets' season, and likely won't have any effect on the outcome of the Jets' season. But, single digits have a certain je ne sais quoi about them that causes players to be attracted to them. As they say, look good, play good.
