Anthony Gordon’s long-term future at Newcastle United has been questioned once again.
Gordon established himself as one of Newcastle United’s best players last season, enjoying a remarkable turnaround following a difficult first few months under Eddie Howe.
However, this season has proven more difficult. While Gordon signed a new contract at Newcastle in October 2024, the 24-year-old has struggled to wholly convince since.
This season has brought nine goals and seven assists in 41 appearances. Last season, those figures stood at 12 and 16 in 48 outings.
Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in signing Gordon this summer, which makes comments from Blues co-owner Todd Boehly particularly interesting.

Todd Boehly drops Chelsea hint after interest in Anthony Gordon
Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum, the American investor admitted Chelsea were almost done when it comes to spending big money.
The London club have adopted a controversial transfer strategy in recent years, spending big fees on a succession of young players signed to long-term contracts.
“Listen, I think we’ve done most of our investing,” he said.

‘We’re not looking at it as a spend, we’re looking at it as an investment and we’re trying to build the best portfolio of players that can perform at the highest level, for the longest periods of time.”
Newcastle value Gordon at around £100million, so perhaps that price tag will just prove too expensive for those at Stamford Bridge.
It has not been an easy season for the former Everton forward, although there are mitigating factors. Gordon arrived back for pre-season fairly late after being part of England’s Euro 2024 squad, albeit he hardly played.
He has also since suffered injuries, while a high-profile red card against Brighton in the FA Cup further derailed his campaign.

What Chelsea fans have been saying about Anthony Gordon
The winger played for Howe’s side when they beat Chelsea 2-0 at St James’ Park earlier this month. At the time, that looked like a massive win in the Champions League race, although it’s now come down to what happens on the final day of the Premier League season.
Chelsea fans on social media slammed Gordon as a “disgrace”, claiming he was constantly going down rather easily and looking to win fouls.
Player Number of fouls won per game

Anthony Gordon 2.1

In the Premier League this season, only three players – one of whom is Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes – win more fouls per game.
There’s nothing wrong with that…
