Adam Schefter wears a lot of hats at ESPN, a list of responsibilities that includes serving as the network’s top NFL insider and contributor on a litany of shows like NFL Live, Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Countdown, and SportsCenter, among others. But interestingly, it was his NBA predictions that were the topic of discussion during Tuesday’s edition of God Bless Football with Jon “Stugotz” Weiner.
ESPN viewers may remember the mad scramble that ESPN was forced into when longtime NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski shocked everyone and stepped away from his role at the network. But chances are, they may not remember that it was actually Adam Schefter who initially replaced Wojnarowski on NBA Today the day he left ESPN.
On that edition of NBA Today last September, Schefter shared his prediction for what teams would end up making it to the 2025 NBA Finals. And miraculously, those two teams, the New York Knicks and the Oklahoma City Thunder, not only still remain in the postseason, but go into their respective Conference Finals series’ as the betting favorites to reach the NBA Finals.
During Schefter’s appearance on God Bless Football on Tuesday, Stugotz was quite adamant that the Knicks would sweep the Indiana Pacers and play the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Finals. But with his preseason prediction still intact, the Schefter understandably disagreed with Stugotz’s opinion that the Timberwolves would make it to the NBA Finals.
“Schefter, I have the Knicks in four,” said Stugotz. “Just so you know, it’s a sweep. And we’re winning the NBA title. We’ll play Minnesota, it’s a trade that worked out for both teams. We’ll play each other in the finals.”
“Hold on,” Schefter said as he interjected. “I believe there is a SportsCenter clip, at the beginning of the season, on SportsCenter, we have to find it. It was the day Woj retired, and they had me on for my NBA prediction. I predicted a Thunder-Knicks finals.”
“Wow, look at you, Schefter,” replied Stugotz. “You should have replaced Woj. I don’t understand why that didn’t happen.”

Schefter has recently said that he wanted ESPN to “let him out of his cage” and allow him to delve into other topics outside of the NFL. So who knows, maybe Schefter will become the next great NBA insider or analyst someday.
But even if that career change never happens, Schefter will still have some bragging rights over a large portion of his colleagues covering the NBA, a list of 12 in particular, who incorrectly predicted that the Eastern Conference Finals would feature the Celtics and Cavaliers.
