Newcastle United's final day showdown with Everton has been snubbed by Sky Sports as the channel announced their broadcasting plans for this weekend's Premier League action. Five teams are currently battling it out for a Champions League spot, with the Magpies, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City all capable of joining Liverpool and Arsenal in Europe's premier competition next term.
However, Sky Sports will avoid showcasing Newcastle's clash with Everton, Manchester City's trip to Fulham and Aston Villa's visit to Manchester United as they instead opt for Liverpool's final game of the season with Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest's meeting with Chelsea. Liverpool wrapped the title up earlier this month and have since failed to win any of their latest three top flight clashes.
Sky cameras will be at Anfield for the club's title lift but the clash against Crystal Palace - who look poised to finish between ninth or 12th - is ultimately a dead rubber. Meanwhile, TNT Sports are yet to confirm which top flight clash they will be showing on Sunday afternoon.
Sky Sports have recently confirmed its Premier League coverage will increase from next season, jumping from 128 matches to at least 125 to at least 215 live fixtures. The broadcaster will air 80 per cent of the televised top flight clashes after a new and improved deal was struck with the league.
Whether the television cameras are in attendance or not, St James' Park promises to be bouncing for the 38th and final game of a memorable Newcastle campaign. The Magpies will be confident of gaining all three points but must simply match Chelsea's result and they will be guaranteed a top five finish.
"We love playing at home," Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said lately. "It's a really great atmosphere. We don't want to get ahead of ourselves and make it too emotional. We need to give our best and try and win."
