Saints GM Mickey Loomis discusses the team’s schedule and current QB room

The 2025 [New Orleans Saints](https://www.canalstreetchronicles.com/) Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Tournament took place on Monday, May 19, and local media had a brief opportunity to catch up with GM Mickey Loomis to get his thoughts on Derek Carr’s retirement, lack of primetime games, current quarterback room and more.

### **On Derek Carr retiring so soon:**

“Look, he was injured. I have been around a long time so there now many things I haven’t seen. You have injuries come up and things that you may not think are that serious at one time end up becoming serious. So, from that aspect, I would say it’s not rare, but it doesn’t happen very often. You get curveballs in this game all the time and this is one that we have to deal with.”

### **On the Saints schedule and gettingn o primetime games this season:**

“Well, we don’t have any prime-time games so that’s what the league thinks of us, and that’s fine. There’s a lot about the schedule that I really like. We knew who we were going to play, it was just a matter of when and where and I kind of like the way it laid out.

Look, we’re used to playing in primetime over the years, but we had five wins last year, so we can’t really complain about it.” “We’ve got to go out and perform and earn those opportunities.”

### **On the current, young quarterback room:**

Yeah, they’re young. It’s a young group, enthusiastic, there’s talent there and I think we’ve got a great coaching staff. We’ve got three former quarterbacks with Kellen, with Doug Nussmeier and with Scott in the room with them. I think that’s a good mix.

### **On new HC Kellen Moore molding the team into his own:**

“Listen, I think that needs to unfold, number one but look he has success as a quarterback, he understands the position, he understands what he needs to ask from these guys at this stage of their career. I’m anxious and enthusiastic about seeing how it unfolds.”

### **On adding a veteran QB after OTA’s and minicamp:**

“Good question. You know I really can't answer that other than just to say that we are always at every position looking to see if there is a way we can improve. So, I don't look at that any differently than I would look at our linebacker room, or our DB room or any position. If there’s an opportunity for us to improve, we're gonna look take it.

The Saints will hit the field this week for voluntary OTA’s followed up by mandatory minicamp on June 10-12, 2025.
