Detroit Lions set 2025 preseason schedule, kicking off with Hall of Fame game

The Detroit Lions’ preseason schedule has officially been set, the team announced on Tuesday, beginning with the 2025 NFL Hall of Fame Game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

For the first time since 1991, the Lions get to open up the NFL’s preseason slate when they [face Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers at the annual event](https://www.mlive.com/lions/2025/04/detroit-lions-will-face-jim-harbaughs-chargers-in-nfls-hall-of-fame-game.html) in Canton, Ohio.

This will be Detroit’s fourth time playing in the preseason opener, having beat the Denver Broncos in 1991, lost to the Broncos in 1976 and lost to Washington in 1965.

The game also means an early start for the Lions as they get their first on-field showcase Thursday, July 31, broadcasting at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Detroit will hit the road for one preseason matchup, going to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to face the Atlanta Falcons on Aug. 8.

The Lions then host the Miami Dolphins as well as C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans on Aug. 16 and 23, respectively.

Detroit won its last matchup with the Texans in a 26-23 thriller in 2024, while defeating the Chargers and Falcons in their previous meetings in 2023.

The Lions lost their last game against the Dolphins in a 31-27 contest in 2022 at Ford Field.

Outside of the Hall of Fame Game, the Lions’ preseason games will all air on the Lions TV Network.
