Detroit Lions approval poll: Dan Campbell (May 2025)

The face of the Detroit Lions for the past four years has been head coach Dan Campbell. Typically, being the face of this organization means being the target of constant criticism, and while Campbell has received a fair share, he has seemed to accomplish the impossible: becoming a universally-loved Detroit Lions head coach.

If you look at our most recent approval polls of Dan Campbell, in three of the past four installments, he’s received a 100 percent approval rating. These days, it’s nearly impossible for everyone to agree on one thing, yet Lions fans have gathered to celebrate the man and coach that Dan Campbell has been since being hired in 2021—and inheriting an 78 percent approval rating upon taking the job.

Here’s his approval rating throughout his time in Detroit:

January 2021:78 percent approval

July 2021:97 percent approval

October 2021:95 percent approval

November 2021:88 percent approval

December 2021:98 percent approval

January 2022:98 percent approval

September 2022:98 percent approval

October 2022:80 percent approval

November 2022:94 percent approval

January 2023:100 percent approval

October 2023:100 percent approval

February 2024:97 percent approval

October 2024:100 percent approval

Now it’s time to vote again.

The Lions are coming off a franchise record-setting season with an incredible 15-2 regular season. The bar continues to raise in Detroit, but the team remains without a Super Bowl appearance. For as good as last season was, a quick exit in the playoffs was a major disappointment. It’s hard to say that falls on the lap of Campbell, given the ridiculous amount of injuries the Lions incurred and the relatively poor play he got from his players, but fairly or unfairly, the coach gets the blame.

Perhaps most interesting, though, is how this year plays out. The Lions are at a crossroads after losing both offensive and defensive coordinators to head coaching jobs. While that is a credit to Campbell for hiring the right guys for those positions, now Campbell must do it again. Will John Morton and Kelvin Sheppard be the right guys? Can Campbell prove that the Lions’ success wasn’t just the result of an offensive wunderkind, but rather the culture-setter at head coach who remains criminally underrated as a brilliant football mind himself?

This season could tell us a lot about Dan Campbell, but now we must vote on his accomplishments thus far.
