Former Dolphins Player Has Passed Away

The Miami Dolphins took to social media with some sad news.

They released a brief statement to announce that Randy Crowder, a former defensive lineman, passed away at 72.

Notably, he was the father of another former Dolphins defender, linebacker Channing Crowder.

Randy Crowder was a sixth-round pick out of Penn State in the 1974 NFL Draft and climbed his way up to become a steady contributor.

In three seasons with Miami, he made 39 appearances, including 25 starts, with 12.5 sacks and one fumble recovery.

He sat out the 1977 season before coming back to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, posting 6.5 sacks in his three seasons there.

He and Channing Crowder make up the only father-son duo to be drafted by the Dolphins in their history.

The Dolphins took Channing Crowder in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida.

He would play his entire six-year NFL career for Miami, starting 74 of his 82 games with 470 combined tackles, 20 tackles for loss and 19 passes defended.

The Dolphins have had other father-son duos, including Kantroy Barber and Rudy Barber, and Bob Griese and Brian Griese.

Unfortunately, this has been a sad couple of weeks for the Dolphins organization, which also lost running back Tommy Vigorito when he passed away at age 65.
