Barcelona want to sign €85m Liverpool star for four reasons - he's their top target

Luis Diaz is a serious transfer target for Barcelona this summer as Hansi Flick investigates how best to improve this side that just won La Liga.

Like Liverpool, the Catalonians are basking in the success of their domestic championship campaign but with plenty of room for improvement, Diaz has been highlighted as a key target.

Despite already boasting a tri of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal, Barcelona are confident that Luis Diaz is the perfect fit for their 2025/26 attacking plans.

This season, the Colombian has 17 goals and eight assists while playing out of position for most of it. In order to accomodate Cody Gakpo on the left wing, Slot has been using Diaz as a false nine to great effect.

However, Diaz could be one of several players to leave Liverpool when the transfer window opens and Barca are hoping to be the ones that sign him.

The four reasons Barcelona are convinced Luis Diaz is the perfect signing to make this summer

According to Football Espana, Barcelona “will not have the budget” to overhaul their squad the way Hansi Flick would like” but “it appears they are desperate to bring in a left winger once again.”

Barca Director of Football, Deco, is a huge fan of Diaz’s and reportedly, “whatever money he has available is likely to go on the Liverpool man.”

And according to Spanish outlet Sport, via Sempre Barca, there are four reasons why Deco, Flick and Barcelona are so keen on Diaz.

Diaz (€85m) would be significantly more expensive than Nico Williams (€58m) but “Deco, Hansi Flick and President Joan Laporta, have decided that Diaz better meets their needs.”

The first reason why they prefer Diaz is his age. At 28, the Spanish side consider this a positive given how young and inexperienced the current Barcelona side is.

Secondly, “they also feel that his qualities and knowledge of the game would allow him to hit the ground running at Barcelona, and potentially become a decisive forward at the top level immediately.”

Thirdly, his “versatility is ability to play across the front line is also important, with Barcelona primarily relying on four forwards to cover three positions this season.”

Fourthly and finally, Barcelona are no longer as serious about signing Nico Williams.
