Despite recent reports, Arsenal are still in pole position to sign Viktor Gyokeres, according to Sport Witness.
Arsenal recently all but secured second place in the Premier League with a victory over Newcastle. Unless Manchester City overhaul a goal difference swing of eight, the Gunners will finish as runners-up in the English top flight for the third consecutive season, with Liverpool having won the trophy with four games to spare.
Mikel Arteta has done some brilliant work at Arsenal, but the Spaniard will be all too aware of the fact that he has not won any major silverware since lifting the FA Cup in 2019. The club, who reached the Champions League semi-finals, seemingly already have an eye on the upcoming transfer window.
Arsenal are keen on reinforcing their attack in the summer, having been linked with a number of forwards in recent weeks. There have been suggestions of one such target being looked at by other teams, but it appears that the Gunners are still the player’s expected destination.

Sport Witness, as per Portuguese newspaper A Bola, have reported that despite interest from Manchester United, Arsenal “remain the main candidates” for Gyokeres’ signature. Gyokeres will play with Sporting in the Taca de Portugal final against Benfica, having already clinched his second league title in as many years.

Since joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, Gyokeres has blossomed into one of the most lethal strikers in Europe. The Swedish international has proven that he can score consistently at even the highest level of football, the Champions League. Gyokeres, who has been called "the best in the world," is expected to move on from Portugal in the summer.
For Arsenal, both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz displayed shaky form before suffering long-term injuries back in January. The Gunners have since been forced to use Mikel Merino, a midfielder, as a makeshift striker. Gyokeres has a clear starting role in North London and could perhaps finally fire Arsenal to silverware once again.
