The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Wednesday that they have signed former Houston Texans offensive lineman Nick Broeker and released Lecitus Smith.
Smith was released by the Patriots earlier this offseason He was claimed off the practice from the Green Bay Packersin the middle of the season.
A 2022 sixth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals, Smith has been all around the NFL over his first three seasons in the NFL. Over his first three seasons, Smith has played for the Cardinals, Packers, Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, and Houston Texans.
Broeker, meanwhile, was cut by the Texans two weeks ago and only now was picked up by the Steelers ahead of OTAs. A seventh-round pick by the Buffalo Bills out of Ole Miss in the 2023 NFL Draft, Broeker lasted just the summer with them before the Texans claimed him.
Over his two years with the Texans, Broeker played in 12 games. He has played tackle and guard at different points, but the Steelers list Broeker as a guard, meaning he will compete for a roster spot on the interior of the offensive line.
The Steelers let Nate Herbig walk this offseason, and so depth on the interior of their offensive line remained a big question for this team, but Broeker brings some experience that will help push that competition forward.
