The Chicago Bears wrapped up day two of their OTAs this week. They will finish this current round on Thursday, with additional OTA sessions scheduled for May 28–30 and June 9–11. Mandatory minicamp will take place from June 3–5.
Here are the biggest takeaways from this week:
Luther Burden III Absent Due to Injury
Rookie wide receiver Luther Burden III was not present at practice. Head coach Ben Johnson confirmed Burden is dealing with a soft-tissue injury, likely stemming from a diving catch during rookie minicamp.
“Yeah, he wasn’t there today. We’re working through a little soft tissue deal with him right now, and remains to be seen when we’ll get him back,” Johnson said.

Ben Johnson Addresses Caleb Williams Report
Without being prompted, Ben Johnson addressed the recent ESPN story by Seth Wickersham, which highlighted concerns from Caleb Williams and his father about Chicago being a place where “quarterbacks go to die.”
“I love it. I love the opportunity to come on in and change that narrative. That’s where great stories are written. And so we’re looking to write a new chapter,” Johnson said.
Jaquan Brisker Returns to Practice
Safety Jaquan Brisker was back in action and appeared to be full-go. His presence was a welcome sight as the defense continues to gear up for the season.
Ben Johnson Brings the Energy
Johnson showed his intensity during practice, emphasizing tempo, pre-snap motion, and precision. He wasn’t shy about calling out players — including Cole Kmet — for mistakes.
When asked if he was agitated:
“Agitated? Nah, that’s pretty normal stuff,” Johnson said.
The competitive edge and accountability are already noticeable under his leadership.
Offensive Line Notes
Kiran Amegadjie took first-team reps at left tackle.
Ozzy Trapilo handled second-team reps at LT.
Darnell Wright remained the starting right tackle.
Caleb Williams has made a notable mechanical adjustment this offseason, now using his left foot forward in shotgun, the opposite of his stance last year. Johnson explained the decision:
“I think it helps out certainly with the quick game from the gun, and then helps us being a little bit better at a throwing posture… It was more a mutual, yeah, let’s see what this looks like. And I think he’s taken a knack to it.”
Asked Ben Johnson about Caleb Williams having his left foot forward now, which was the opposite last season.
"Yeah, I mean, I've done it a number of ways in my time in the league, and really over the last few years, I've kind of gravitated towards that. It’s something that I… pic.twitter.com/fzKGQ7wgn7
