The Indianapolis Colts announced that team owner Jim irsay passed away Wednesday at the age of 65.
"We are devastated to announce our beloved owner and CEO, Jim Irsay, passed away peacefully in his sleep this afternoon," the Colts released in a statement. "Jim's dedication and passion for the Indianapolis Colts in addition to his generosity, commitment to the community, and most importantly, his love for his family were unsurpassed."
Irsay was named general manager of the Colts in 1984 at the age of 24, the youngest person to ever hold the title in the NFL. When his father, Robert, passed away in 1997, Jim took sole ownership of the team and became the youngest NFL team owner at the age of 37.
With Irsay at the helm, the Colts made two Super Bowl appearances, winning Super Bowl XLI in 2006, marking the franchises lone title after moving from Baltimore.
More to come.
