"There's Definitely A Market" - Arsenal And Chelsea On Alert As Bundesliga Side Open Door To £51M Transfer

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has confirmed that Arsenal transfer target Jamie Gittens will be on the market this summer.

The England Under 21 international has been linked with a transfer to the Gunners, in addition to Chelsea, and speaking about Dortmund’s summer plans, Kehl hinted they are open to offers for Gittens:

“We want to reduce wages. That said, it’s possible we’ll continue with some of these players. But some may no longer be part of the BVB squad next season. There’s definitely a market for [Gittens].”

“He’s a very exciting player. We’ll be having discussions soon. If offers come in, we’ll have to deal with them.”

How much will Gittens cost?

It was originally claimed that Dortmund would hold out for a fee in the region of €100m (£84.6m) for the winger but subsequent reports have said that the Bundesliga side would be willing to offload him for around €60m (£51m).

However, after sealing Champions League qualification on the final day of the season last week, Dortmund are not under as much pressure to sell Gittens as they might have been.

Arsenal have alternative targets

Most believe that manager Mikel Arteta would prefer the club to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao to strengthen the left wing. The Spaniard has a €58m (£49m) release clause which makes him an attractive option.

However, his wage demands and interest from other teams (including Real Madrid) make it a complicated deal to negotiate.

In recent weeks, the Gunners have also been credited with an interest in the likes of Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, AC Milan’s Rafael Leao and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo so it remains to be seen how high up Gittens is on the club’s list of summer transfer targets.
