Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are bidding to join football’s elite when they take on Italian giants Inter Milan in the Champions League final later this month.
The French champions are hoping to win the trophy for the first time in the club’s history and make up for the disappointment of their final defeat against Bayern Munich five years ago.
But three-time winners Inter Milan stand in their way and will provide a formidable obstacle.
Il Rossoneri conceded just one goal in eight League Phase matches and helped deliver arguably the most thrilling Champions League semi-final ever when they slayed Barcelona 7-6 on aggregate.
But former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour is backing Luis Enrique’s side to finally lift the trophy in Munich on 31 May.
“PSG have to play their own game and also be ready for the physicality and the direct approach from Inter,” he says.
“The Serie A side will want to start fast and impose themselves, looking to get the ball forward quickly. So PSG must look to their midfield players to take control of the game and feed the quick wingers, putting Inter on the backfoot in the process.
Ray adds: “Then it’s a case of taking your chances and having a keeper in top form, like Donnarumma was against Arsenal.
“I think it will be a close game. I also expect goals, but just feel PSG may have the edge in a 2-1 finish.
“Inter will be more physical and look to stop PSG playing, but Enrique’s men showed against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool that they can compete with the very best.”
Paris Saint-Germain are currently 23/20 favourites with NetBet to win the game, while Inter Milan are 9/4. The two sides to be level at the end of normal time is 23/10 while both teams to score is 8/11 with NetBet.
As well as NetBet Sport offering odds for this season’s Champions League, NetBet Casino UK has a welcome offer, featuring the chance to opt-in and bet £10 to get 100 free spins for new customers*.
PSG initially struggled in the early stages of the competition, winning only four games in the revamped league format, drawing one and losing three.
They were forced into the play-offs where they thrashed Brest 10-0 over two legs. They have since gone on to knock out Premier League champions Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal in the semi-finals.
“The first 20 minutes of the first leg were a massive part of why Arsenal didn’t qualify,” says Ray.
He adds: “Not having Partey in the centre of midfield and Merino up top were massive blows. Arsenal were unable to cope with the way PSG set up and the Ligue 1 side capitalised on this by scoring the important first goal.
“After those 20 minutes, there was one player who won the tie for PSG and it was Donnarumma. He made two world-class saves in the first leg and a few more in the second leg, from Odegaard and Saka especially. Arsenal aren’t far away, though, and hopefully they can go one step further next year.”
