Former NFL defensive lineman, Penn State All-American has died

Former [Penn State](https://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/) All-American Randy Crowder has died, [the Miami Dolphins announced on Wednesday](https://x.com/MiamiDolphins/status/1925200283698683969). He was 72 years old.

The Pennsylvania native earned All-American honors at Penn State during the 1973 season as the Nittany Lions finished with a perfect 12-0 record.

Crowder was a key piece of Penn State’s defense that year as he was a captain and starting defensive lineman for the Nittany Lions.

Following his college career, Randy Crowder was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the sixth round of the 1974 NFL Draft. He went on to play three seasons in Miami, before finishing his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Crowder played in 39 games and made 25 starts during his time with the Dolphins after being drafted by Miami in 1974.

Randy Crowder is the father of fellow former All-American Channing Crowder, who is a Pennsylvania native who played college football at Florida.

Channing Crowder was also drafted by the Dolphins as he was selected by Miami in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft.

He went on to play six seasons in Miami, playing in 82 games for the Dolphins. Channing Crowder finished his career with 469 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries.
