Barcelona sporting director Deco has been talking about the team’s goalkeeping situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
There are doubts over the futures of Inaki Pena and [Wojciech Szczęsny currently](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/5/12/24428118/wojciech-szczesny-confirms-two-year-contract-offer-from-barcelona-but-yet-to-decide), while Marc-Andre ter Stegen has just turned 33 and spent a long time out this season.
Deco says a new stopper will be needed soon and also took time out to praise Espanyol stopper Joan Garcia who has been linked with a move.
> “We have two. The idea is for them to stay. We have Iñaki, we’ll see what he decides. It’s true that if you look at the future in a year or two, Barça will have to have another goalkeeper,” he told RAC1.
>
> “We have talented young players at La Masia, maybe we have to loan some out.
>
> “Joan García? I don’t pay much attention to goalkeepers. I can give my opinion on players, but I have very little idea about goalkeepers.
>
> “We’re working to gather information by scouting the best players, and Joan García is a good goalkeeper.”
Barcelona will have likely have to wait and see what happens with Pena and Szczesny before any decisions are made.
Pena has been tipped to leave after losing his place, while Szczesny has admitted he has an offer to stay but wants to discuss it with his family.
