Premier League legend Alan Shearer has included Arsenal pair William Saliba and Declan Rice in his Team of the Season.
With the Gunners set to finish 2nd in the Premier League for a third campaign in a row, Shearer paid tribute to Saliba who has been “a rock at the heart of the meanest Premier League defence for a second season running”.

He admitted that it was a close call between the France international and Nottingham Forest’s Nikola Milenkovic for a place in his team but he ultimately plumped for the Arsenal centre-back.
Rice was also praised by Shearer who called the midfielder “technically superb and incredibly strong in his duels” having edged out Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch for a position in his midfield.
Who else made it into the Premier League Team of the Season?
Shearer selected Liverpool No.1 Alisson Becker in goal, with Saliba being joined in a back four by Virgil van Dijk, Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.
In midfield, Rice lines up alongside another Liverpool player, Alexis Mac Allister, and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali.
Up front, the Premier League’s leading scorer Mo Salah has been partnered with Alexander Isak and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo (both potential transfer targets for the Gunners).
One Arsenal player may feel hard done by
David Raya could well win the Golden Glove for the second year in a row if he keeps a clean sheet on the final day of the campaign against Southampton this weekend.
Considering Alisson has had his injuries this season, there is a good case for Raya to be included ahead of the Brazilian. He has been very consistent for Mikel Arteta’s side, making some excellent saves throughout the course of the campaign.
