Cam Heyward Reveals Steelers Sleepy International Struggles

The Pittsburgh Steelers have played just one international game in their history, but a second is on the way in 2025. The Steelers are set to take on Dublin, Ireland in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings.

The only other time the Steelers have played outside of the United States came in 2013, when the Steelers dropped a 34-27 game against the Vikings in London.

Cam Hayward is the only member of the Steelers who was with the franchise during that game, and on Not Just Football with Cam Heyward, he shared what he remembers of the experience.

"We left Thursday night, arrived Friday morning. And everybody was asleep during practice, everybody was falling asleep during the stretch. Then we had meetings after, everybody fell asleep there. Then during the game everybody as asleep in the first half. It's rough because you're going what, it'll be five hours ahead? So you're trying to get sleep on a plane going over there and it's not ideal." Said Heyward.

The NFL is reportedly putting parameters on when teams can travel to international games. It is trying to maintain competitive balance by keeping as many variables even between the two teams. The Vikings however will be coming into this year's matchup with more international experience after having played in London last season.

Outside of Heyward, who last played overseas 12 years ago, the only players on the roster with international experience are via trade or free agency acquisitions, such as wide receiver DK Metcalf, who played in Germany in 2022.
