Enzo Fernandez has openly talked about his early struggles at Chelsea, revealing the issue he faced in adapting to the club and the Premier League. In his latest interview with Los Edul, the Argentine midfielder looked back on his early life in London, mentioning personal and professional problems.
He admitted that there was a lot he had to learn, including a new language.
“I didn’t have the opportunity to study English as a child, many kids started arriving, and the club was in transformation. The first six months weren’t easy, but the club helped me. My Spanish-speaking teammates helped me a lot. Today I’m very happy.”
Physically, Fernandez struggled in the Premier League and under Mauricio Pochettino.
“The first 6 months with Pochettino, I had a hard time physically, and I had to train extra because I felt like I wasn’t up to it. It’s paid off, and I feel great both physically and mentally. I’ve grown a lot and I’m a better player.”
In spite of all these initial setbacks, Fernandez has established himself as a regular Chelsea midfield player.
Real Madrid Enzo Fernandez Bid Despite Chelsea Stance
Real Madrid have put a fresh bid on the table for Blues midfielder Enzo Fernandez as they seek to add to their midfield ahead of next season, with new manager Xabi Alonso coming in. Chelsea have already stated that the Argentine is not available to sell.
Fernandez signed from Benfica in January 2023 by Chelsea for a British-record £106.8 million, and has become one of Stamford Bridge’s bedrocks. Under Enzo Maresca, he refined his goal returns to seven goals and 13 assists this season. He is under contract until 2032, and the Blues have no interest in selling him.
But Real Madrid’s planned makeover in the midfield has been triggered by Toni Kroos’ exit and Luka Modric’s age. This has put Fernandez at the top of their shopping list, and a swap deal involving Madrid forward Rodrygo is said to be on the cards.
