Berta can grant Arteta transfer wish with £147m Arsenal plan

Mikel Arteta has outlined exactly what he expects from Andrea Berta this summer. Throughout January, Arsenal's manager regularly called on higher-ups at the Emirates Stadium to strengthen his squad - following injuries to key players.

Despite asking for reinforcements, on numerous occasions, his requests fell on deaf ears. As a result, the Gunners fell behind in the Premier League title race and crashed out of the UEFA Champions League.

Having not won a major trophy in five years, the Spaniard will be determined to finally get his hands on silverware. With a new sporting director by his side, the north Londoners are expected to splash the cash.

Speaking with reporters ahead of Arsenal's game against Southampton this weekend, Arteta said: "Well, what we have, what is clear as well with the amount of injuries that we had in the frontline, that we need a goal threat and we need the firepower out there.

"Understanding that the context can change tomorrow, you know, and we cannot rely on the numbers that we had in before. And we have to add goals, we have to add creativity, we have to add numbers and that will be in different positions."

The summer transfer window will open for English top-flight clubs on June 1, before then briefly closing again on June 10. Once the FIFA Club World Cup has finished, it will then reopen on June 16 and then close on September 1.

So, with that being said, football.london has looked at how Arsenal could set up next season if Berta gets what Arteta wants.

Gyokeres leads the Arsenal frontline

Viktor Gyokeres has established himself as one of the most prolific goal-scorers in Europe, making him a natural target for Arsenal. football.london understands the Gunners are longer-term admirers of the Sporting CP striker, with interest dating back to his spell at Coventry City in the Championship.

Despite an impressive debut season in the Portuguese top-flight, Arsenal - like many other clubs - decided against making a bid. But, the Sweden international has continued in the same vein this term, scoring 38 goals in 32 games.

football.london understands that Berta is thought to be a 'big fan' of Gyokeres, but - as it stands - an official offer hasn't been submitted yet. The £63m-rated Swede could be the final piece of the puzzle.

Saka keeps his place on the right

Bukayo Saka keeps his place in the starting line-up. The 23-year-old forward did a lot of heavy lifting for Arteta's side before he suffered a hamstring injury in December.

In the three months or so that he was out of action, Arsenal appeared to run out of ideas, in the final third. With Gyokeres leading the frontline, there wouldn't be as much pressure on Saka to find the net.

Arsenal can wrap-up luxury signing

Rodrygo would be a luxury signing for Arsenal. The 24-year-old winger continues to be linked with a move to the Premier League after supposedly falling out of favour at Real Madrid.

Under Carlo Ancelotti, Rodrygo has often featured either on the right-hand side or at striker to accommodate Vinicius Jnr and, more recently, Kylian Mbappe. Arsenal can offer the Brazil international a place on the left, his favoured position.

A world-class striker, like Gyokeres, should be the priority for Berta this summer. But, the £84m-rated Real Madrid star would significantly upgrade Arteta's side - sending out a statement of intent to the rest of Europe.
