Report: Everton eyeing move to sign 'special' English star who is free to leave, could cost £35m

Everton are eyeing a move to sign Manchester City youngster James McAtee in the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The Toffees have already secured their first signing of the summer, and it's an addition that wouldn't have come as a surprise to too many supporters. Carlos Alcaraz, who joined the club on loan from Flamengo in January, has signed on a permanent, two-year deal, with Everton acting fast to get him tied up.

It's unlikely to be the only addition of the window for the Merseyside club with a host of players already heading through the exit door. Abdoulaye Doucoure's departure has already been confirmed, while loanees Armando Broja, Jack Harrison, Jesper Lindstrom, and Orel Mangala have all returned to their parent clubs.

The former Sheffield United loanee, described as 'special' by Pep Guardiola, has struggled to break into the Man City starting XI on a regular basis, and a departure could be on the cards this summer. GIVEMESPORT sources have confirmed that City could offload McAtee during the window if a suitable offer arrives, with the England youth international entering the final year of his deal.

McAtee's versatility could make him a useful option for Moyes heading into the 2025/2026 season. The City midfielder is predominantly a number 10, but can also play in a deeper role as well as out wide. The addition of Alcaraz does make it interesting, with McAtee, who could cost £35m, likely to fight for the same position if he does join the Toffees during the summer transfer window.
