Manchester United are reportedly interested in a former Premier League striker Erik ten Hag considered signing two years ago.

It is no secret that Ruben Amorim needs a new No.9 after Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s woeful season in front of goal.

The pair scored just seven league goals between them, while only four clubs found the back of the net fewer times than United in the top-flight as they slumped to 15th place.

The arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves will help matters but finding more firepower is proving a tricky task.

United have already been turned down by Liam Delap who is joining Chelsea, while transfers for Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Jean-Philippe Mateta are proving difficult.

As a result, it is now said the Red Devils are one of three Premier League clubs weighing up a move for former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

talkSPORT report that the Serbian has been put up for sale by Al-Hilal – the Saudi Pro League side that are trying to sign United captain Bruno Fernandes.

Al-Hilal are also interested in signing Osimhen and Cristiano Ronaldo as they prepare for the Club World Cup but will need to sell in order to keep within foreign quota rules.

They have slapped a £40million price tag on Mitrovic but would also be willing to loan him out, with United, Everton and West Ham keeping tabs on the situation.

Why Man Utd didn’t sign Aleksandar Mitrovic in 2023

Mitrovic initially failed to make an impact in England with Newcastle but rediscovered his shooting boots following a move to Fulham in 2018.

Clubs: Newcastle United, Fulham

Appearances: 129

Goals: 38

Assists: 11

Yellow cards: 21

Red cards: 2

The 30-year-old notably scored a record 43 goals in a single Championship season before netting 14 in just 24 Premier League appearances in 2022/23.

That form caught the eye of then-United boss Ten Hag but his interest cooled after Mitrovic shockingly shoved referee Chris Kavanagh during an FA Cup defeat to, ironically, United.

The striker was punished with an eight game ban for his actions before being sold to Al Hilal for £50m, while the Red Devils gambled £72m on Hojlund.

While the Dane has massively underwhelmed, Mitrovic has 68 goals in 79 games in Saudi Arabia, winning a league and cup double last year.

He is also his country’s all-time top scorer with finding the back of the net 59 times in 89 caps.
