West Ham will be able to bring in some new players this summer ahead of next season

West Ham turned to Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui in January but has since struggled for results. Prior to his move to the London Stadium, he took some time out of the game after his sacking by Chelsea. He has also managed the likes of Swansea City and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Potter, 50, has won only five of his 19 games in charge of the Hammers. He has the chance to bring in some new signings this summer to boost his squad. The Midlands-born man also has the opportunity to sell some players.

West Ham target Nick Woltemade swoop

However, the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Brighton and Everton have also been mentioned as potential suitors, along with European teams such as Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Roma. Therefore, the Hammers would need to see off plenty of competition from elsewhere for his signature. They would be able to offer him a lot of game time though which should boost their chances of getting.

Woltemade, 23, is a Germany with one cap under his belt so far in his career. He rose up through the academy ranks at Werder Bremen and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. The attacker then broke into their first-team as a teenager and scored two goals in 51 games.

He was also loaned out to SV Elversberg to get some experience under his belt. Bremen sold him 12 months ago when Stuttgart came calling and must be kicking themselves. He has since been prolific and has fired 17 goals in 33 matches.

Would Nick Woltemade suit West Ham?

West Ham could see Woltemade as someone to boost their options up top. If he joined, he would give them something different to pick. He will be in confident mood at the moment and has been experiencing a hot streak in front of goal. As with any player signed from abroad, it may take him a while to adapt to the rigours of English football if he joined - the last thing West Ham want is another Niclas Fullkrug on their hands. The Hammers would have to be patient with him whilst he found his feet. Potter is likely to want someone to hit the ground running immediately though.

Woltemade struggled for form during his days in Werder Bremen’s first-team but the change of scene to Stuttgart has worked wonders for him. He should also credit his development to his time at Elversberg too. He found the net on 17 occasions for them during their time in 3.Liga together and his career has taken off since then.

West Ham weren’t good enough last term and need to perform better next time around. Pressure will be on Potter from the off to start getting some wins. They need to get their recruitment spot on and not waste money. Woltemade would be a risky addition considering he has never played in this country but the fact teams like Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton suggest he is highly-rated in the game right now.
