He is keen on playing regularly as he’s vying for a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.

Discussing his potential move, Alan Myers, the former Sky Sports news editor, told Everton Transfer Talk: “I could see the logic in it. I know Moyes likes him. I can see a pathway there that’s for sure.”

Stones has been lauded by fans and pundits alike for his performances under Pep Guardiola.

Scott Parker told Sky Sports back in 2024: “John Stones is a freak, really. He is a world class player.”

David Moyes can build a solid defence around Jarrad Branthwaite and Stones

If Stones joins Everton, David Moyes could forge a formidable defensive partnership with Jarrad Branthwaite, leveraging their complementary skills to bolster the team’s backline.

Stones, a veteran with 83 England caps, brings elite ball-playing ability, composure and experience from winning multiple Premier League titles with Manchester City.

His versatility to step into midfield and initiate attacks aligns with Moyes’ pragmatic yet progressive approach.

Branthwaite, at 22, offers physicality, aerial dominance and raw potential, having impressed in Everton’s defence and at PSV on loan.

Moyes could utilise Stones’ leadership to mentor Branthwaite, enhancing the younger defender’s positional awareness and decision-making.

Together, their partnership could balance flair and solidity, with Stones’ passing range complementing Branthwaite’s defensive tenacity.

Moyes’ structured 4-2-3-1 system would allow the duo to thrive, supported by disciplined midfielders like Idrissa Gueye.

While Stones’ injury history requires careful management, his experience alongside Branthwaite’s youth could create a robust defence, helping Everton push for a top-half finish and withstand high-pressing opponents.
