Manchester United’s summer business is already making waves, with Matheus Cunha signed and negotiations underway for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

But even as INEOS works on trimming the squad to stay within financial constraints, the hunt for a new striker hasn’t slowed.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have been pushing hard in the market, but appear to be veering towards RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko over other available options.

Juventus remain interested in attacking reinforcements but could struggle due to Serie A’s wage restrictions, while Al-Hilal have been offering jaw-dropping figures without much success convincing top European stars.

All of this has set the stage perfectly for Manchester United to make their next move – and now a golden opportunity has landed right in their lap.

Viktor Gyokeres has reportedly told Sporting CP that he will not play for the club again after a breakdown in trust with president Frederico Varandas.

According to Portuguese newspaper Record (today’s edition), the Swedish striker is fuming after Varandas backed out of a gentleman’s agreement to sell him for €60 million (£50.8m) plus €10m in add-ons.

Instead, Sporting are now demanding a full €80 million up front – a move that has left Viktor Gyokeres “incensed,” and ready to walk away entirely from the Lisbon side.

Record states: “The Swedish forward will not wear the Lions’ shirt again,” quoting a verbal declaration made by the 27-year-old in recent hours.

There has been no official response from Sporting, but Varandas is expected to speak publicly today at a museum event in Leiria.

Gyokeres has also gone public with his frustration by removing any mention of Sporting from his Instagram bio, which now simply reads “Sportsperson.”

Gyokeres, who is currently on holiday in Sweden, is reportedly prepared to cut his break short and speak out publicly if the club doesn’t resolve the situation quickly – something he’s avoided so far out of respect for fans.

The striker has suitors lined up, with Arsenal, Juventus, Al-Hilal and Manchester United all in pursuit, but Record confirm that his preference is to stay in Europe.

Although Arsenal are tipped as frontrunners, their focus on Sesko could open the door for United to swoop in – especially given manager Ruben Amorim’s strong connection with Gyokeres.

With Champions League football off the table, United may still need to get creative – but with tensions boiling over in Lisbon, INEOS could be forced to act faster than expected.
