Beloved Ex-NFL Kicker Eddie Garcia, 65, Dies Unexpectedly

Eddie Garcia was a kicker for the Green Bay Packers whose career was cut short by a hamstring injury.

Later, he was a board member for the storied Wisconsin team.

The team announced on June 10 that Garcia died at the age of 65 five days before.

A cause of death wasn't given. His death was unexpected, according to his obituary in The Green Bay Press-Gazette.

The Packers confirmed Garcia's death in a statement, writing, "Eddie Garcia, former Green Bay Packers kicker and current member of the team's board of directors, died June 5, 2025, at his home in Poygan, WI. Garcia was 65."

Drafted by the Packers "in the 10th round in 1982, Garcia kicked in 19 games over the 1983 and '84 seasons, making three of nine field goal attempts," the team wrote.

"In his first season, he handled the kickoff duties while Jan Stenerud kicked field goals and extra points. In 1984, Garcia was the kicker for seven games until he injured his hamstring and was placed on injured reserve. He was waived following the season," the team continued.

"Garcia, a retired senior director with Oshkosh Defense of the Oshkosh Corporation, was elected to the Packers' board in 2021 and served on the sales and marketing and Green Bay Packers Foundation committees," the Packers wrote.

The obituary says that Garcia's "sudden departure leaves a lasting void for his family, but they are comforted in knowing he is at peace in heaven with his loved ones who departed before him."

The obit says Garcia "loved to travel the world, and then relax in Florida during the cold winters with his wife of 40 years and partner in adventure, Jill" and was also survived by two daughters.
