Sporting Club de Portugal president Federico Varandas has insisted they will not demand that Arsenal, Manchester United or anyone else need to pay the release clause for Viktor Gyökeres this summer.

That gave journalists a chance to ask about the developing situation around Gyökeres, which has become somewhat toxic over the last week.
The Swedish striker is expected to leave Sporting this summer, with Arsenal, Manchester United and several other major clubs in Europe all keen on his signature. Indeed, a report yesterday stated the Premier League duo would be sending offers sooner rather than later.
The question is how much they will have to pay to get the 27-year-old, with him and his agent believing that he has an agreement to leave for less than his current release clause. Sporting have seemingly denied this exists, leading to Gyökeres and his agent growing displeased with the situation.

“Sporting will not demand the termination clause, but they should know me better by now: threats, blackmail, insults, don’t work with me,” he said.
“I can guarantee one thing: Viktor Gyökeres will not leave for €60 million + €10 million. He will not leave, because I never allowed it, and with this game that the agent is playing, the situation is only getting worse.”
