Arsenal icon Perry Groves has urged Bryan Mbeumo to join Tottenham Hotspur over Manchester United. He believes the Brentford star would do better at the London club than Old Trafford.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Groves acknowledged that Tottenham would struggle to match Manchester United's wage offer. But he felt Spurs would give more to offer on the pitch than the Red Devils. He also pointed at Spurs' qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season, while Ruben Amorim's side stay without European football, and said:
"Football-wise, he should go to - and it pains me to say it - he should go to Spurs because of Champions League football and you want to play at the highest level. But financially, that's why Spurs are going to struggle to go at that [potential transfer]. Because all the top teams pay their top players £200,000-a-week plus. Spurs are never going to do that."
England legend Stuart Pearce was also of the same opinion on talkSPORT's Sports Breakfast show and claimed that Tottenham was ideal for Mbeumo as he did not have to change cities too. He said:
"I think it's the relationship between him and the manager. Obviously, he gets on very well with him it seems from the outside, and everything comes down to finances as well, if they match his aspirations. Thing is with Tottenham as well, he doesn't have to leave London. So if he doesn't want to change his city in any way shape or form, it's ideal for him."
Manchester United have reportedly had a £55 million bid to sign Mbeumo rejected by Brentford, who are open to selling him this summer.

Ben Forster has also urged Bryan Mbeumo to pick Tottenham as his next club. The former Manchester United goalkeeper believes that the winger would do well at the London club under Thomas Frank, under whom he flourished at Brentford. He said (via TBR Football):
“If you want to be part of something that’s going to make you probably a better footballer and work hard, be part of a team, then go to Spurs with Thomas Frank. If you are happy picking up your wages knowing that there’s going to be an awful lot more pressure, a lot more eyes on you, judgment, but with their record in the last couple of years of failures, then go to Manchester United.”
Tottenham are reportedly in talks to hire Thomas Frank as their next manager. They sacked Ange Postecoglou just days after he guided them to UEFA Europa League glory.
