Trade that could send Lauri Markkanen to Lakers this offseason

The Lakers could potentially trade Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2031 first-round pick to the Jazz in exchange for star big man Lauri Markkanen.

The Los Angeles Lakers are in desperate need of frontcourt help this summer, and adding a big man is one of their top priorities. One name generating plenty of buzz is Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen.

There's speculation the LA Lakers might make a run at him. Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World recently proposed a hypothetical trade to bring Markkanen to Los Angeles.

Lakers receive:

Lauri Markkanen

Jazz receive:

Austin Reaves

Rui Hachimura

Jarred Vanderbilt

No. 55 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft

2031 first-round pick

But making such a deal is easier said than done.

According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Utah has placed a steep price tag on another of its bigs, Walker Kessler—a sign the Jazz won't let go of Markkanen easily either.

Utah is known for demanding significant returns in trades, and the Lakers may not have enough assets to meet that asking price.

Markkanen played in 47 games this past season, averaging 19.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. He's a former NBA All-Star and will earn $46.39 million in the 2025-26 season.

On paper, he seems like a perfect fit alongside LeBron James and Luka Doncic. His shooting, ability to finish above the rim, and defensive presence would complement the Lakers' stars well.

The Jazz are reportedly open to hearing offers for both Markkanen and Kessler.

Other players who could be on the move include John Collins, Collin Sexton, and Jordan Clarkson—all of whom are on expiring contracts heading into the 2025-26 season.
