Dirk Kuyt Will Not Join Liverpool as Arne Slot’s Next Assistant Manager

When [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/) assistant John Heitenga joined Ajax as their new manager earlier in the month, there was a brief flurry of speculation regarding his successor with the Reds, with most of it focusing in on Dirk Kuyt.

The former Liverpool forward moved into management after retirement, with a short but disappointing stint at ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie followed by a move to Belgian second division side Beerschot, where he earned promotion.

However, after failing to build on that promotion and being relegated back to the second division last season, Kuyt is expected to move on. His agent, though, says despite the chatter, he won’t be joining the Reds.

“No, they will have a different assistant manager,” agent Rob Jansen [said](https://sportnieuws.nl/voetbal/nieuws/dirk-kuijt-ziet-kans-bij-droomclub-in-rook-opgaan-dat-gaat-iemand-anders-worden-2025061010062945723/) this week. “That would have been great for him, but Liverpool’s assistant will be someone else. It would have been great for Dirk and he would have loved to go to Liverpool.”

Whether Kuyt was in contention but Liverpool decided to go in another direction or if the chatter was only ever media speculation is another question, though Jansen added if the role was offered Kuyt would “sign blindly.”
