Aston Villa could 'revisit' attempted Barcelona transfer this summer

Fermin Lopez

Aston Villa have once again been linked with a move for Barcelona star Fermin Lopez in this summer transfer window. The La Masia academy product has been in the Barca first-team squad and made 46 appearances last season, starting 19 of them, as the Blaugrana completed the domestic double.

Lopez, who joined Barcelona in his early teens from Real Betis, has previously attracted the interest of Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports in Catalonia, with the Blues considering an offer which would involve Christopher Nkunku going in the opposite direction as part of the negotiations.

Fermin, 22, scored eight goals and produced 10 assists for Barca last season; it was form that meant he was involved in Spain's senior squad for their Nations League meetings with France and then, in the final, Portugal, although the attacker didn't make an appearance from the bench in either fixture.

The Spaniard, , was in the Euro 2024 squad last year and also went on to win gold at the Olympic Games in Paris, thanks in no small part to his six goals contributed across the tournament.

With the transfer window temporarily closed as the Club World Cup in the United States prepares to get underway, Villa are still working on deals which can bubble away under the surface until they're in a position to formally conclude them. Unai Emery is on the look-out for another attack-minded player for his squad this summer.
