Chelsea were believed to be pushing for a move for Gittens yesterday, determined to secure him before the close of the registration window for the Club World Cup.
They have seen a have seen a €35m bid and a €50 bid for the winger rejected, with Dortmund believed to be demanding €65m before they will sanction a transfer this summer.
Ultimately a deal wasn’t done before the deadline, with the German club and Chelsea unable to agree a price in time for Gittens to join the Blues’ squad before the special deadline passed.
Reports in England have stated that left Gittens furious, with him determined to return to England this summer and bring his five years in Germany with Dortmund to an end.
Kehl has now been asked about the situation today in a media briefing, and admitted the transfer fell down because of a disagreement on the fee.
“We spoke on the phone, in the end we did not agree, because we have different ideas about the current value of the player,” he said.
“Jamie definitely makes our team better. We are glad that he is there. We are in a good exchange and see how things are shaping in the future.
“Of course, at some point, if you take a player with it, you also have to sell. I assume that his market value will not fall. We will see to what extent we can keep it until the end of the tournament. There will be talks again.”
