The situation between Viktor Gyokeres and Sporting CP has seemingly hit boiling point, with the fallout between the player and club becoming increasingly public.
It’s emerged recently that Gyokeres has become furious with the club as they have seemingly breached the gentleman’s agreement put in place when the striker agreed a new contract.
At the time of contract negotiations, it’s reported that an agreement was in place for the striker to leave the club for a fee of £50 million plus £8.4 million in add-ons.
However, the club are demanding a £67 million fee for the striker, seemingly going against the arrangement they had in place with their star man.
On the back of his frustration, Gyokeres has removed Sporting from his social media bio, taking the brewing feud to new heights.
To deal with the situation, Sporting’s president Frederico Varandas has cancelled his holiday, with his words on the matter being reported by Sebastiao Sousa-Pinto.
Introducing the situation, Varandas commented: “I tried to take three days off, I came back yesterday. I saw so much information and counter-information that it is only fair to come and explain the process.”
The Sporting president went on to explain that at the time of agreement no specific value was agreed, merely that the striker would not have a release clause due to his age of 27.
However, in a strong final point, Varandas hit back at Gyokeres’ frustration, saying: “I want to make one thing clear: Sporting has common sense and keeps it word.”
He continued: “Now blackmail and insults, Sporting will not accept. One thing is certain: Sporting will not accept 60 million plus 10. As of today, Sporting has not received any proposals for Gyokeres.”
These official comments to Gyokeres recent fall out clearly shows a major breakdown in relationship, one which could have seen Gyokeres’ last game for Sporting already played.
