“Just buy him” - Paul Scholes urges Man Utd to sign player after watching England vs Senegal

England’s drab start under Thomas Tuchel continued on Tuesday night as Senegal beat them 3-1 at the City Ground – but Paul Scholes singled out one Three Lions star that Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United should secure the services of this summer.

Harry Kane’s seventh-minute strike kick-started proceedings, but Senegal were well-drilled and stuck to their guns – grabbing one five minutes shy of the half-time break before managing to score another two in the second 45 minutes of action.

Irrespective of how poorly Tuchel’s men played, Red Devils legend Scholes – who played 716 times for the club before retiring for a second time in the summer of 2013 – has implored Amorim to open up the chequebook and sign one an England star.

The Red Devils’ potential lineup for next season bodes well for their hopes of restoring some of their old gleam.

Scholes Implores Amorim to Sign England Star This Summer

The ex-midfielder offered a three-word plea to Man Utd

Matheus Cunha is already through the door; Bryan Mbeumo has green-lit a summer move to Old Trafford and Lisbon-born Amorim is reportedly eyeing the idea of reuniting with Sporting CP marksman Viktor Gyokeres – but who does Scholes have in mind instead?

One of the biggest problems that Amorim has faced since swapping Portugal for England in November 2024 is goalscoring – and Scholes’ option could well do that. In fact, only four sides scored fewer goals in the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Not many players showered themselves in glory as England look to qualify for, and win, the World Cup in 2026 – but the affectionally monikered Ginger Prince, 50, believes that Eberechi Eze is a player that Amorim and his entourage should purchase.

Taking to Instagram after England’s damning defeat on home soil, Scholes – widely regarded as one of the best passers in football history – kept it short and simple by posting a picture of Tottenham Hotspur-linked Eze with a three-word message to Manchester United staff:

“Just buy him.”

Against Senegal, lined up alongside the talismanic Kane, London-born Eze enjoyed his first 90-minute display for the national team – and, statistically, he won 100% (6/6) of his ground duels, completed two key passes and produced the same number of big chances.

In 2024/25 alone, Crystal Palace’s talisman plundered 25 goal involvements (14 goals and 11 assists) in 43 outings across all competitions – but his crowning moment for scoring his side’s only goal in a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Eberechi Eze is one of the Eagles' past and present who make the list.

From his time at Selhurst Park, the attacking midfielder (despite not scoring or assists, it must be added) boasts an impressive record against the 13-time Premier League champions. In 11 meetings, he’s won on a total of five occasions. He's lost three times and drawn the same number.
