Manchester United’s summer strategy under Ruben Amorim continues to evolve, with the Red Devils tracking numerous emerging midfield talents across Europe.
The focus on young, versatile playmakers has grown, especially as Amorim looks to lower the squad’s average age while increasing technical ability in midfield.
Amid concerns over depth and creativity in central areas, United have kept tabs on several players lighting up their respective leagues, including targets in Portugal, France, and Scandinavia.

Meanwhile, the rise of Scandinavian footballers like Erling Haaland and Antonio Nusa has reignited interest in the Norwegian market, where teenage prospects are rapidly transitioning into senior stars.
One name repeatedly linked with a potential Premier League move was Sverre Nypan — but he’s now set to join Manchester City, as per The Athletic.
The 18-year-old Rosenborg sensation is reportedly close to sealing a move to the Etihad after City swooped in late to beat competition from a host of European clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Aston Villa.
Sverre Nypan, already a Norway Under-21 international, has played 70 first-team matches for Rosenborg, scoring eight goals and leading his side in assists last season with six.
His all-round performances have made him one of the most exciting midfielders to emerge from Norway since Martin Odegaard.

The deal — expected to be a record transfer fee for a player from the Norwegian Eliteserien — is still subject to personal terms, but Nypan is expected to go out on loan for the 2025/26 season.
City’s interest only materialised late in the race, but they managed to convince both Nypan and his family with a long-term vision and development pathway, a pitch that ultimately beat out United and others.
Arsenal had hosted the teenager earlier in the year, while Villa flew to Norway in an attempt to seal the deal.
United monitored his progress throughout the season but never formally advanced negotiations.
With City now closing in, United will have to shift focus quickly — but missing out on a generational Norwegian talent to their fiercest rivals will sting, especially given the comparisons already being drawn between Nypan and Odegaard.
