Manchester United’s pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres is continuing to develop after links began surfacing with Ruben Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese manager changed the landscape of Sporting CP, helping the side to win five cups in four and a half years, including their first Liga Portugal title in 19 years.

Over the last two seasons a major player to his success was Gyokeres, who scored 66 goals and grabbed 23 assists in 68 games under Amorim’s leadership.

As such, Gyokeres is one of the most prolific strikers in world football right now, with Europe’s elite fighting it out to sign the striker.

Over recent days a transfer has been as good as guaranteed with Gyokeres growing “furious” with Sporting over their breach of the parties’ gentlemen’s agreement for him to be sold for a reasonable price.

An agreement was made for Gyokeres to be let go for bids of £50 million plus £8.4 million in add-ons should he wish to leave the clause.

However, Sporting have been demanding upwards of £67 million for the striker, going against their previous arrangement which was put in place when he signed a new contract.

As such, Gyokeres has removed Sporting from his social media bio, removing affiliation with the club, seemingly marking he’s played his last game in the Portuguese capital.

Now, Manchester Evening News has reported that UK musician Tom Grennan has unveiled some inside information from his friendship with the striker.

The unlikely friendship formed when Viktor Gyokeres was at Coventry City, with Grennan being a big fan of the Sky Blues.

Since the Sweden international’s move to Portugal, the pair have kept in contact. Now, the musician has revealed his thoughts on Gyokeres’ upcoming move from recent conversations with the striker.

Speaking to the BBC podcast ‘You About?’, Grennan shared: “I know him well. I actually messaged him and he said that there’s different conversations going on. Do you know who his best friend is? Haaland. That is why I think he’ll go to Manchester United because he’ll be next door to Haaland.”

The close friendship between Gyokeres and Haaland could well be another factor, alongside a reunion with Ruben Amorim to see the prolific striker move to Manchester.
