Chelsea leave unwanted trio out of Club World Cup squad

Joao Felix, Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling have been left out of the Chelsea squad for this summer’s Club World Cup.

The players spent time out on loan last season and are assessing their options ahead of permanent exits.

Sterling joined Arsenal on a season-long loan deal last summer but failed to make an impression in North London.

Chelsea will look for solutions on the market for both players.

The 30-year-old started just seven times in the Premier League for Arsenal and failed to score a league goal during his time at the Emirates.

Felix signed for Chelsea from Atletico Madrid for £45m 12 months ago, but moved to AC Milan on loan in January after failing to break into Enzo Maresca’s plans. The Portugal international underwhelmed in Italy with Milan deciding against pursuing a permanent deal.

Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he made 10 appearances.

Chelsea are now working on solutions for the players and none will form part of the Club World Cup squad in the USA. Felix’s former squad number, 14, has been allocated to new signing Dário Essugo.

Chelsea face MLS side Los Angeles FC in their Club World Cup opener on June 16th.
