Report: 15-goal Chelsea youngster now set to leave after rejecting new Stamford Bridge contract

Chelsea’s desire to bring in some of the world’s most talented young players has caused unrest amongst the academy at the club.

A number of the brightest talents coming through Cobham will likely have been left worried as the Blues continue to bolster their future prospects with an influx of new signings.

The likes of Estevao Willian, Kendry Paez and Mike Penders are all set to become Chelsea players this summer, with the Brazilian set to be part of Enzo Maresca’s first team squad next season.

Some have already made the decision to test the waters elsewhere. Rio Ngumoha made the controversial switch to Liverpool last summer.

Donnell McNeilly set to leave after rejecting new Chelsea contract

It looks as if another young prospect is set to make the decision to move on too. Donnell McNeilly’s current contract is set to expire this summer.

According to The Athletic, the youngster has decided not to extend his deal with the Blues, and instead will be leaving during the transfer window.

McNeilly was seen in first team training under Enzo Maresca at times last season, however was not one of the youngsters who made their debut for the club throughout the campaign.

Shumaira Mheuka was the young striker who was looked to by the manager when the opportunity arose. This included being Chelsea’s youngest starter in Europe when he began the game against Copenhagen in the Conference League.

McNeilly’s impressive season at Chelsea

After a very strong 2023/24 campaign coming through the ranks, McNeilly built on that with some impressive numbers.

The 19-year-old scored 12 goals in 18 games in Premier League 2, with him reaching 15 goals in all competitions in 28 appearances.

Any club looking to sign a new young striker can do a lot worse than McNeilly, who will no doubt be choosing carefully as he looks to break into first team football in the coming season.
