Diego Simeone makes clear Julian Alvarez point amid Arsenal links

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has welcomed the transfer rumours surrounding his star striker Julian Alvarez. The Argentine hotshot, who made a big-money move from Manchester City to Atletico last year, has been on fire in La Liga, bagging an impressive 29 goals across all competitions.

[Arsenal](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/) and Liverpool are reportedly eyeing up Alvarez for a summer swoop as they aim to bolster their attacking options. Yet, Simeone sees the gossip as nothing but high praise for one of his key men.

Simeone is not shocked to find English giants alongside Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in the mix for Alvarez's signature, and he believes that Atletico must strive for glory to ensure the prolific forward stays put. Simeone told [La Nacion](https://www.lanacion.com.ar/deportes/futbol/cholo-simeone-el-futbol-y-la-vida-el-papa-que-resiste-las-cargadas-y-quiere-vivir-mejor-y-el-futuro-nid09062025/) : "It’s logical, I can’t imagine any other scenario.

"Julian is 25 years old, he's an extraordinary player, with hunger, with enthusiasm, with humility, with work, with goals, with status. How could everyone not want him? And Barcelona, PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool... the best have to want him. And for us, Atletico fans, it should be a source of pride that everyone wants him. Why? Because he's ours.

"And since he's ours, we have to take care of him. We have to help him feel happy. How will he feel happy? By winning. And to get there, we all have to give 110 per cent. And not just for him, of course, but for everyone."

Simeone has every reason to be confident about keeping Alvarez at Atletico, with club president Enrique Cerezo extremely vocal about the player's future. "Julian Alvarez is an Atletico Madrid player and will be an Atletico Madrid player," Cerezo confidently told Marca last week. That comment followed a declaration of intent in May.

"Julian Alvarez is a player of Atletico de Madrid," he declared. "He's very happy here, he is our player and he will remain our player. He was raised at Atletico Madrid and he will die at Atletico Madrid."

Alvarez himself seems content at Atletico after his first season, expressing his gratitude and connection with the club and supporters as the 2024/25 campaign wrapped up. "The first season at home is coming to an end. Thank you for always being there and for making me feel like I belong from day one," the forward shared on social media.
