‘Here we go’Record-breaking ex-Man Utd youngster unites with Mason Greenwood at Marseille

The feeling of unions and reunions is in the air as just when Viktor Gyokeres’ reunion with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford is gathering pace, a Man Utd reunion is “Here we go” at Marseille in Ligue 1.

Mason Greenwood signed for Marseille last summer for about £26 million, a deal which might further benefit Man Utd if and when he leaves.

In the meantime, he impressed at Marseille and the Ligue 1 club will be in the Champions League next season.

Eager to strengthen their squad to attack Europe’s biggest club competition, Roberto de Zerbi’s side have looked to a record-breaking ex-Man Utd wonderkid.

Olympique Marseille sign Angel Gomes

It feels like eons ago when Angel Gomes was tipped as a future superstar at Old Trafford, playing beyond his age and impressing for United’s academy sides.

He was given his senior debut by Jose Mourinho when he came on for Wayne Rooney in a poetic substitution, making him the youngest player to debut for Man Utd at the time.

However, as he didn’t see a pathway to consistent senior football, he bet on himself and left United on a free transfer, joining Lille.

This summer marked the end of his five-year contract with the French club, during which he made his international debut for England and started to make good on his potential.

Now a free agent, Gomes was linked with a return to United but that hasn’t materialised. Instead, he’s set to team up with Mason Greenwood at Marseille.

Fabrizio Romano has given his famed “Here We Go” to the deal, with Gomes signing a three-year contract.

Man Utd have moved on from Angel Gomes’ chase

United might have been interested in Angel Gomes when Erik ten Hag was in charge, but there doesn’t seem to be a place for him in Ruben Amorim’s XI.

Amorim has stressed the importance of physically intense players on a number of occasions and Gomes is more of an orchestrator than an engine.

De Zerbi’s style of football suits him perfectly and he gets to stay in Ligue 1, where he rebuilt his career and put himself back on the map.

It is a perfect move for the former United man who will also reunite with another former United player in Greenwood who has re-established himself in France.

United fans will always be keeping one eye on how Gomes fares at Marseille on the biggest stage.
