FC Porto officially named their squad for the upcoming Club World Cup on Tuesday, including Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira among their midfield options.

Some had wondered whether or not Vieira would be involved, as most loan spells come to an end on June 30th, midway through the tournament.

But Simon Collings reports for The Standard that the specific terms of Vieira’s loan meant he was always going to be available for Porto at the Club World Cup.

Vieira has flown out to the USA with the Porto squad, and reports have suggested the club would be keen to keep the Arsenal loanee beyond this summer.

But with no purchase option in his contract, Porto would have to negotiate a permanent deal or another loan transfer from scratch. Arsenal hold all the cards, with Vieira still under contract until 2027.

For the time being, Vieira will be focusing on trying to win the Club World Cup. Porto face Palmeiras on Sunday, June 15th, then Inter Miami on Thursday, June 19th, before wrapping up the group stage with a game against Al Ahly on Tuesday, June 24th.

Whether or not Porto require Vieira beyond that date will depend on whether they can finish in the top-two in Group A and thus reach the knockout stages.
