Borussia Dortmund director of football Sebastien Kehl has confirmed that Chelsea have been in talks to sign Jamie Gittens. He admitted that they could not agree terms but will revisit the deal when the window reopens.
Speaking to the media via Tage Spiegel, Kehl said that Chelsea and Dortmund are in a good relationship and had a good exchange while discussing the fee for Gittens. He added that the two sides will talk once again and is confident that they could agree terms soon. He said:
“We spoke on the phone, in the end we did not agree, because we have different ideas about the current value of the player. Jamie definitely makes our team better. We are glad that he is there. We are in a good exchange and see how things are shaping in the future. Of course, at some point, if you take a player with it, you also have to sell. I assume that his market value will not fall. We will see to what extent we can keep it until the end of the tournament. There will be talks again.”
Chelsea made multiple bids for Jamie Gittens as they pushed to sign him before the FIFA Club World Cup deadline on Tuesday, June 10. They had a €55 million bid rejected by the Bundesliga side, who were demanding around €70 million.
Liverpool urged to sign Chelsea target in swap deal for Darwin Nunez
Didi Hamann spoke to Instant Casino earlier this year and urged Liverpool to sign Jamie Gittens. He believes that the Chelsea target can be lured by the Reds if they offer Darwin Nunez to Borussia Dortmund and said:
"One option that could work is Jamie Gittens and Darwin Nunez in a swap deal between Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund. Gittens started the season on fire and was almost carrying the team for the first three months of the season.
"Since the new manager arrived he has found things a bit hard and not started many games, because the new manager is looking for the hardest workers. He needed time to adapt but came off the bench and scored on Saturday, hopefully he will have an impact in the Champions League. But I would say that Gittens and Nunez in a swap deal is not that far-fetched."
Ryan Babel also spoke about Jamie Gittens and claimed that the Englishman was ready to make the switch to the Premier League this summer.
