Knicks Have Been Denied To Speak With Notable Coach

The New York Knicks continue their pursuit of a new head coach.

Unfortunately, doors keep shutting on them.

They’ve tried to reach out to other teams to discuss hiring one of their head coaches, but to no avail.

As reported by Shams Charania of ESPN, via Yahoo Sports, the Dallas Mavericks denied the Knicks permission to speak to head coach Jason Kidd.

The Knicks also were denied the opportunity to talk to Chris Finch of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Ime Udoka of the Houston Rockets.

Watching the Knicks scramble to find a replacement is somewhat head-scratching.

Clearly, they didn’t have a succession plan in place when they chose to part with Tom Thibodeau, the coach who had led them back to relevance and playoff success.

Granted, Thibodeau isn’t a perfect coach, and he’s dealt with the same issues for more than a decade, so perhaps it was time for a change, even after reaching the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals.

But now it seems like the Knicks will have a tough time finding someone better, or as good as, him.

Former Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone could be an option, and they reportedly will keep tabs on Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Johnnie Bryant, who worked under Thibodeau in New York.

The Knicks believe they’re good enough to compete for an NBA championship, and the bar will be quite high for whoever takes the reins.
