George Lovell, one of the original Outsports readers, longtime member and gay sports fan, has died.
The announcement was made on the Facebook page of Lovell’s favorite gay bar, Ty’s, located in Manhattan, where he worked.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that one of our Ty’s family members, George Lovell passed away today…” the bar posted on Facebook. “He will be very much missed by all of at the bar.”
Ty’s also mentioned a forthcoming memorial service.
Known as “George Vikings Fan,” Lovell was a staple of the Outsports community for well over a decade. He was a prolific poster on what was then the Outsports discussion board. He also attended many Outsports events.
Lovell was an avid football fan — obviously given his Outsports handle, the Minnesota Vikings in particular. He was a critical part of the big football game Outsports hosted during a tailgate at a Philadelphia Eagles preseason game in the late Naughts. He also attended multiple Outsports conventions.
