Kevin Durant trade rumors: 5 suitors revealed for Suns forward

Kevin Durant is looking for a new home after three disappointing years in Phoenix and it appears he will get his wish. Shams Charania of [ESPN.com](http://ESPN.com) reports Wednesday that Durant and his representation are planning to work with the Suns to find the 36-year-old a new home for next season.

Durant, 36, has one year left on his deal for $54.7 million, so he will have a powerful say in determination his next destination. Most teams would not want to give up major trade capital to land an aging player on an expiring deal.

Charania reports that the main teams featuring interest in Durant recently include the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs. There have also been wildcard suitors involved in the past week.

The Suns forward averaged 26.6 points last year and was named an All-Star for the 15th time in his career. However, the Suns fell short of the postseason despite a huge payroll amid a host of injuries and underwhelming play surrounding Durant, finishing with a 36-46 record

The Celtics are in the midst of retooling around Jayson Tatum this offseason and are not expected to get in on the Durant bidding. However, Boston will have a direct interest in where Durant lands, particularly if it ends up being with an East rival.

The Knicks have been linked with Durant interest dating back to last year’s trade deadline. However, salary limitations combined with limited trade assets would make any deal tough to figure out for the Knicks, particularly if the Suns do not have interest in Karl-Anthony Towns as a centerpiece of a deal.

The Heat are another team interested in a reboot after dealing away Jimmy Butler last season. They have some young intriguing players on the roster (Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic) along with some movable salary (Andrew Wiggins, Terry Rozier) but with limited draft capital available, it’s unclear if they have enough assets to get competitive in the Durant bidding.

Ultimately, the Celtics will be rooting for Durant to end up in the Western Conference and that’s where the best potential trade assets are for Phoenix with San Antonio and Houston having the most available draft capital.

The Suns traded four first-round picks along with Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson to acquire Durant in February 2023.
