Joao Pedro has been linked with a move to Liverpool but if they are serious about the Brazilian they will need to see off competition from Newcastle United.
Liverpool are in the market for a top centre forward this season as the club looks to put the failure of the big money move to sign Darwin Nunez behind them.
The obvious names like Alexander Isak, Victors Osimhen and Gyokeres have been linked but the Reds are known to deviate from the big links that do the rounds in the press.
The most likely of the alternative links has to be Hugo Ekitike, who is an elite player in the making in his own right and may be the perfect fit for Liverpool this summer.
An outside shout closer to home is Brighton’s Joao Pedro, who has been linked with the Anfield outfit albeit not to the same degree as the likes of Isak and co.
At 23, he is the right age and has Premier League experience but he will not be an easy signing to complete given the wide scope of interest in his services.
How much are Brighton demanding from suitors for Joao Pedro’s signature?
With ten goals and seven assists for the Seagulls this season, it’s clear to see why the Brazilian is so highly rated by the likes of Liverpool but how much will it cost to become his next club?
Well, according to Football Insider, Liverpool will have to compete with Newcastle United, who are reportedly Pedro’s top suitor this summer and with Champions League football on offer at St. James’ Park next season, they are an attractive prospect for a developing star.
They also have increased financial power given the extra funds sides in the qualifying places receive.
Pedro joined Brighton from Watford in 2023 for a fee of £30m and Brighton will now look to double their initial investment as they look to receive a fee in the region of £50m-£60m.
This makes him significantly cheaper than Ekitike (£80m) and Isak (£150m) and while he is an ideal fit for Liverpool stylistically speaking, it remains to be seen if Arne Slot is looking for a player to develop into a world beater or on that must arrive already established among Europe’s elite forwards.
