Arsenal are actively looking to beat Manchester United and other interested parties in the race to sign Sporting Club striker Viktor Gyokeres, as per reports. The Sweden international is a player in demand for his impressive goalscoring record in Portugal.
Journalist Alfredo Pedulla reports that Arsenal are keen on Gyokeres and will look to jump to the front of the queue of teams interested in the 27-year-old. They have been linked with a number of striker targets but appear set to make a concrete move for the Swede.
Sporting have come out to deny claims that they will be looking to accept around €70 million for the striker this summer. He has a release clause of €100 million in his contract, which is set to run for three more years.
Viktor Gyokeres has been one of Europe's finest goalscorers in the past two years, scoring an impressive 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting. He has won the golden boot in each of his two seasons with the club, having joined from Coventry City in the summer of 2023.
Arsenal are in dire need of a new striker this summer as Gabriel Jesus continues his rehabilitation following the ACL injury he picked up during the season. Kai Havertz will also take the summer to work his way to full fitness, having returned from a lengthy layoff in the latter stages of the season. They have been strongly linked with Benjamin Sesko, as well, but the RB Leipzig man has a hefty price tag.
Manchester United's interest in Gyokeres dates back to shortly after Ruben Amorim was named as their head coach last year. The Red Devils have been unimpressed with the performances of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, and are keen to sign a proven goalscorer at centre-forward.
Manchester United, Arsenal set to miss out on teenage sensation: Reports
Manchester United and Arsenal are among a host of clubs that are set to miss out on the signature of Rosenborg youngster Sverre Nypan, as per reports. The Norwegian youth international has been coveted by a number of sides and appears to have decided on his next club.
The Athletic reports that Manchester City are set to sign the 18-year-old midfielder, with personal terms expected to be agreed upon soon. He will head out on loan for a season to gain more experience, with Girona earmarked as his likely destination.
Arsenal and Manchester United, as well as Aston Villa, approached Nypan in recent months to discuss a transfer, but they have failed to land the teenager. Manchester City will complete his transfer this summer for what is expected to be a record sale from the Norwegian top-flight.
