Man United chief argued against'embarrassing'post-season tour but Ineos continued with£8m plan

Manchester United’s terrible 2024/25 campaign ended with an unusual post-season tour of Asia.

Just days after Manchester United confirmed their 15th-place finish in the Premier League table, Ruben Amorim’s squad jetted out for a post-season tour of Asia.

United lost to ASEAN All-Stars in Malaysia in the first of two matches, and the Red Devils also fell behind before beating Hong Kong 3-1 in the second friendly clash.

Overall, the post-season tour generated £8m in revenue for Ineos at a time when United are trying to cut costs and balance their finances.

However, the tour was slammed as “embarrassing” by fans, with United failing to attract big crowds to their unnecessary friendly matches.

Sir Dave Brailsford was against Man United tours

The post-season tour was the first of its kind organised by United, but it wasn’t very well received after the disastrous end to the season.

Ultimately, the tour came across as a money grab far more than a trip that would help Amorim or his players prepare for the upcoming season.

It seems not everyone on the board at United was in favour of the tour plans with The Telegraph reporting that Sir Dave Brailsford spoke out against it.

In a recent report, it is claimed that Brailsford “advocated staying closer to home”, questioning United’s tradition of long-distance tours in the summer.

After touring Asia, United’s 2025 pre-season tour of the United States is set to begin in July as the preparation for the 2025/26 campaign begins.

Just days after United returned from Asia, it was revealed that Brailsford has stepped down at United, returning to his chief role with Ineos rather than overseeing progress at Old Trafford.

Man United’s upcoming 2025 USA pre-season tour

With United not in this summer’s Fifa Club World Cup, players can enjoy a summer break before returning to Carrington for the summer tour.

United’s first summer fixture is against Leeds United in Sweden on July 19th before flying to the United States to take part in the Premier League Summer Series.

United are set to have three games in the US before returning to Old Trafford to face Fiorentina on August 9th – the final game before the new Premier League season begins.

With pressure to hit the ground running this season, Amorim has set strict deadlines for his players in pre-season to ensure they hit peak fitness levels over the summer.
