Thomas Partey has addressed uncertainty surrounding his Arsenal future, amid growing speculation that the Gunners have signed Martin Zubimendi as his long-term replacement.
The 31-year-old Ghanaian midfielder, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in a £45 million deal five years ago, is currently a free agent after his contract officially expired at the start of June. Despite this, the club confirmed last week that discussions are ongoing over a potential short-term extension.
Partey has been a key figure during Mikel Arteta’s rebuild at the Emirates, contributing significantly to Arsenal’s midfield when fit. However, with Real Sociedad star Zubimendi reportedly on his way to north London despite late interest from Real Madrid, questions have been raised about Partey’s role moving forward.

While Partey’s future may depend on how Arteta plans to use him in a reshaped midfield, the midfielder says his family’s well-being and personal happiness will ultimately guide his decision.
Speaking to3 Sports, Thomas Partey said: “The first thing is where you are happy and where you feel at home. I’ve been in football, I’ve played in different teams, but now it’s about what comes next. You still have to consider your objectives and at the end of the day, we all have families to support.”

He added: “We’re not getting any younger. When you’re young, you can just go anywhere, but now you have to think about where your family will be happy, where they’re safe, and where your goals align with your personal life.”
Despite being out of contract, Partey reiterated his love for the club, saying: “I’m an Arsenal fan. I can’t decide anything alone, it’s up to my agent and the club. For me, I just want to enjoy my football.”

Partey appeared rejuvenated last season, putting in consistent performances and remaining largely injury-free, a stark contrast to previous campaigns plagued by fitness issues.
Asked whether he felt he was playing the best football of his Arsenal career, Thomas Partey responded: “People will say that because I was available all season. But even when things haven’t gone well, I always give 100%. Every year, whether I’ve been injured or not, I’ve given my all.”
While Arsenal remain hopeful of securing a short-term agreement, Partey’s future remains in limbo, with his experience and leadership valued, but his role potentially reduced with the arrival of fresh competition in midfield.
